Strengthening Africa’s Leadership in Global Climate Intervention Research
The African Climate Intervention Research (ACIR) Hub connects researchers, institutions, and policymakers across the continent to advance African-led Climate Change and Climate Intervention research, including Solar Radiation Modification (SRM) and Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR).
As climate change is accelerating, Africa is facing its most pressing climate challenges yet. Despite contributing the least to global emissions, the continent experiences some of the most severe impacts of rising temperatures, extreme weather, and shifting ecosystems.
Our work builds knowledge, capacity, and collaboration, enabling African evidence and expertise to inform global decisions on emerging climate solutions.
Collaborative Research Across the Continent
The ACIRH envisions building a well-connected and resourceful community of African SRM researchers, enabling Africa to play a leading role in global SRM discourse and decision-making.
The Hub connects people, knowledge, and action through three complementary areas of work:
Climate Modelling
Building Africa’s capacity to design and run SRM climate experiments through initiatives like the CESM Africa Community.
Regional Networks
Linking universities and research organisations across Africa to collaborate on climate intervention studies.
Policy-Relevant Evidence
Bridging science and policy communities to ensure that African research informs real-world decision-making.
